Farm News
Our work continues in 2026 to source new genetics to diversify and strengthen our Gotland flock.
Our partnership with Appletree Farms, Eugene, OR, through several years of work brought our first shipment of Danish Gotland genetics here to the US. Lykkegaardens Rocky and Funda Ringo's semen was utilized in November 2024 and 2025 in our LAI breeding program. Both rams had high scores in the Elitlamm system and are both ARR, ARR Scrapie Resistant.
During the summer of 2024, Leicester Longwool ram semen was sourced from rams collected here in the US from lines of the early imports from Australia. While not the original rams, they are the early progeny of these treasured sires, and it seemed timely to bring them back. They were included in our November 2024 and 2025 LAI breeding program with our Leicester Longwool ewes.
The 2026 lambs have arrived!! They started late March and finished mid-April. We have watched with special interest how the second year of Danish genetics has strengthened the quality of our flock with the attributes of the Swedish Standards for Gotland sheep that our farm is working to achieve.
Exciting News: Newly arrived this summer is a third ram, Lykkegaardens Elias who likewise has high scores in the Elitlamm system and is ARR, ARR Scrapie Resistant which has new importance here in the US with the reported case of Classical Scrapie found in Oregon this year. We will be utilizing his semen in our LAI breeding program this November 2026 for lambs born in spring 2027.
